ORDERING Business Hours How To Order Paying For It

CUSTOMER SERVICE
PAYING FOR IT We accept MasterCard, Visa or Discover, checks drawn in U.S. dollars on a U.S. bank, wire transfers (if you pay all charges) and even cash (preferably handed over in person). We can also set up an account for you if you are a tour operator client or an institution. SHIPPING We ship promptly, generally within 24 hours from our office in New York City. Standard shipping charges are $4.95 for the first item, and $1.00 for each additional item, up to a maximum of $9.95 per order. Shipping charges are calculated per order and not per shipment, which is extra incentive for us to have everything in stock and a good deal for you! Essential packages include standard shipping, with any additional items ordered shipped for free. Standard shipping in the continental U.S. is by United Parcel Service or Priority Mail, depending on distance and weight. In practice, small packages are shipped via Priority Mail, and we send virtually everything else in the continental U.S. via UPS ground. If you have a strong preference for one or the other, let us know. You'd be surprised at the stories we hear from our customers about their mail carriers and UPS drivers. If you live in Alaska or Hawaii, or would like a large package sent by U.S. mail, we may have to charge a few dollars extra to cover our costs. This is also the case for shipments to APO/FPO and other exotic domestic addresses. FAST SHIPPING Fast shipping is also available. We'll send packages within the continental United States via UPS 2nd Day Air for an additional $8, and UPS Next Day Air for a $30 surcharge. That surcharge is for a typical order of four or five books; it may cost you more if you are ordering many books or if you live on the West Coast. Contact us for a quote on fast shipments to Hawaii or Alaska or for overseas shipments, which is likely to cost $100-$200. We'll quote these shipments base on actual cost. BACK ORDERS Most all our recommended books and maps in our inventory we have on the shelves or can get in a day or two. You'd be amazed at our determination to get you your books. That's our business. Nothing makes us happier than to send books the same day you order. Sometimes, however, we have to backorder. Unless you tell us otherwise we will backorder any items that we can't send you within three business days. Please indicate if you do not want to backorder. We'll send any backordered items just as soon as we can. Shipping a book later may tax your patience but not your wallet; we calculate shipping charges per order and not per shipment. That way the additional shipment costs us and not you. We'll also let you know if we expect any significant delay (like that time the Antarctic maps from New Zealand never arrived).
Price and availability are subject to change. If we can't get a book for you, we'll try to suggest a good alternative and let you know before we make a substitution. Books go in and out of print with alarming speed.
The checkout page is programmed to calculate an additional $3 per item for Canada and a $7 per item surcharge for the rest of the world. Because of the variation in the weights of books and maps, these estimates are often not as good as we might wish. If necessary, we'll contact you by e-mail with a more accurate quote. Other international shipping options are available on request.
When you get to the Check Out page, just indicate the person receiving the gift in the "Shipping Address" column. Then choose one of the three featured paper styles and add a message. When we ship the gift, we'll send you an e-mail confirmation and copy of the invoice.
If you would like to send gifts to more than one person, please enter
each gift as a separate order.
SATISFACTION GUARANTEE If you do not like a book or map for any reason, return it to us in saleable condition at any time. We will promptly issue you a refund. PRICING The "Essential" package featured for each destination is offered at a 15% discount, computed using our secret formula, revealed here: we add up the retail cost of the books and maps, and standard shipping charges and then take 15% off the grand total. If you are very persuasive, you may be able to get us to substitute another book at the same 15% discount. If you order more than one package, you get a shipping credit of $5.00. VISITING US We're a mail-order book service but you are more than welcome to come by and look at books (and us) in person at 115 West 30th Street, Suite 1206 in New York during regular business hours. We like visitors. You might want to call first so we that can make ourselves presentable and let you know what we have in stock for a particular destination. Bring lots of cash, a check or your credit card (MasterCard, Visa or Discover) and save shipping charges (although we will have to collect New York City sales tax). |
